Maggie and Negan return in The Walking Dead: Dead City but that comeback won’t be happening this month.

The world of The Walking Dead will expand beyond its boundaries in 2023 when three new spinoffs will join veteran offshoot Fear The Walking Dead. Who would have thought that it would take the ending of primary TWD Universe show, The Walking Dead, to accomplish that.

The new year brings new beginnings for many of the TWD characters, and that includes bitter enemies-turned-uneasy allies Maggie Rhee and Negan Smith. The two, who teamed up to take down the Commonwealth, will now cross paths again in the Big Apple (or what’s left of it) in The Walking Dead: Dead City.

That said, 2023 may have begun, but the wait for Dead City will continue a little longer as it won’t be premiering on AMC or AMC+ this month. The good news is that we have a rough idea of when that wait will end.

The Walking Dead: Dead City release date updates

The Walking Dead: Dead City is currently set to premiere on AMC and AMC+ in April 2023. The announcement was made at New York Comic-Con in October of last year when the first look images from the spinoff were revealed (which teased that the volatile relationship between Maggie and Negan won’t get any smoother in the new environment).

Of all the upcoming TWD shows, Dead City is the only one with the most definitive release window. From that, we can narrow down its premiere date to at least four weeks (or days since it will likely premiere on a Sunday in the cable network’s well-established TWD slot).

Fear The Walking Dead season 8 is also expected to premiere early on in the year, so don’t be too surprised if it airs in the weeks leading into Dead City (or out of it after its first season concludes). Who knows, maybe they will air on the same night for a little while too? This is the beginning of the TWD Universe era, so why not.

Meanwhile, the Rick & Michonne and Daryl Dixon spinoffs are expected later in the year.
