Get a tense new look at The Walking Dead: Dead City
The Walking Dead: Dead City is coming to screens this year. It won’t be as soon as we thought, but AMC has an exciting new look at the show for us to enjoy!
It’s been a big year for The Walking Dead Universe (and we’re only over a week into 2023!). The first year since 2009 without The Walking Dead on the air, all sights are now set on the multiple in-development spinoffs that will arrive on TV screens later this year. And AMC has ensured that we will be talking about them for some time to come, as the cable network just made some major announcements.
After revealing that original TWD spinoff Fear The Walking Dead would end with its eighth season later this year, AMC announced that new series The Walking Dead: Dead City would not premiere in its planned April release window and will instead be held until June.
It’s a disappointing update for fans, yes, but to ease the blow, the cable network unveiled new photos of the spinoff.

The new photos tease the somewhat tense reunion between Maggie Rhee and Negan Smith. Fans of The Walking Dead will know about the pair’s tumultuous history, as Negan was one of the show’s big bads for a long time, killing Maggie’s husband during his brutal entrance scene. Though he changed his ways in the remaining seasons, he and Maggie have never seen eye-to-eye (and understandably so on Maggie’s part, as she was never able to forgive him for what he did).
That said, they did form an uneasy alliance in the final season, with Maggie acknowledging that he had changed and even earned his place there among the survivors he once tried to kill, adding that in spite of this she would never be able to forgive him.
Their uneasy dynamic will continue to be an important aspect in The Walking Dead: Dead City, and these photos definitely allude to that. How they cross paths in Manhattan remains to be seen, but it goes without saying that fans are looking forward to seeing them (as well Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan) on-screen again.
