6 TV shows that definitely won’t be back in 2023
House of the Dragon
House of the Dragon‘s story is a lot more positive than the arcs of the shows we’ve discussed so far. It was one of 2022’s biggest success stories, bringing the Game of Thrones universe back from the controversy of its reviled final season and setting a new standard for fantasy programming. The fact that it just picked up a Golden Globe highlights that.
It was renewed for a second season after only its pilot episode premiere, indicating that a new chapter had begun in GoT history. However, the show will not be back for more episodes this coming year.
HBO and HBO Max chairman Casey Bloys confirmed that it likely won’t premiere until 2024. And with production on the larger-than-life show only commencing soon, a 2023 release for season 2 is off the table.
Moon Knight
Moon Knight was arguably Marvel’s greatest show of 2022. It was surprising because of how dark it was, and compelling by how different it was. It felt completely disconnected from the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe in every way (even though it is a part of it) and that allowed it to breathe, forming its own lore as it did so.
That also allowed it to be a one-and-done project, which it appears to be right now because there has been no official confirmation of a second season yet. And yet, there have been rumors. Lots and lots of rumors.
Oscar Isaac’s outstanding performance is too good not to see again. Marvel Studios could incorporate him into another MCU project in the future, but there’s still scope for more Moon Knight stories before that. Here’s hoping the rumors turn out to be true and that season 2 does happen in the future. Just don’t expect it to premiere in 2023.
