Marvel’s Thunderbolts may have just lost one of its main characters
According to a new rumor, Marvel’s Thunderbolts may be one member down when the theatrical team-up movie hits screens.
A Thunderbolts project had long-been rumored as a potential new chapter of the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it wasn’t until San Diego Comic-Con last year that it was finally confirmed.
Kevin Feige revealed that the Marvel Comics super-team will be headlining their own movie in Phase Five of the MCU, announcing that it would feature MCU returnees Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), John Walker/US Agent (Wyatt Russell) and Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). It will also feature Harrison Ford as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. However, according to a new rumor, the film could be about to lose one of its stars.
A report from GiantFreakinRobot suggests that actress Hannah John-Kamen will no longer star in Thunderbolts. While no reason for the apparent departure is given, the outlet says that it comes from one of their trusted sources.
Is Hannah John-Kamen leaving Marvel’s Thunderbolts?
John-Kamen first played the role of Ava Starr, a.k.a. Ghost, in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. While Ghost was the antagonist of that movie, it was clear she was capable of redemption and that made her a likely choice for the Thunderbolts line-up.
As with all rumors, it’s important to take this one with a pinch of salt until otherwise verified by Marvel Studios. There is no evidence to suggest that it is true outside of this report, but that could always change in the coming days and weeks if it turns out to be correct. I certainly hope it’s not true, as Ghost has arguably the most comeback potential of all MCU villains, and Thunderbolts is a chance to explore that.
The movie is set to commence production this coming June, so if there are any updates about Ghost’s role, they should be announced before then.
