Director of the upcoming motion picture The Flash shares a behind-the-scenes look of the DCEU’s version of Central City.

With the first official trailer of The Flash imminent and set to premiere at the Super Bowl LVII, we’re going to learn more and more about the movie in the coming months. One of those things is what the world around the Scarlet Speedster will look like. But we don’t have to wait for the trailer to debut for that, as the director, Andy Muschietti, has given us a first-look image of the DC Extended Universe version of Central City, home to the titular speedster.

As reported by Collider, Muschietti shared a behind-the-scenes image of a street corner doubling as Barry Allen’s renowned hometown on Instagram. The image showed Muschietti holding The Flash’s signature lightning bolt symbol as the set of Central City is shown in the background on location.

Check it out below:

In the comics, much like other fictional cities in the DC Universe Gotham City and Metropolis, Central City’s actual location has only been vaguely defined. At first it was stated to be located in the state of Ohio, as it has been for decades, until an issue of The Flash (Vol. 2 No.188) placed its location in the state of Missouri, across the Missouri River from Keystone City, Kansas.

Central City briefly appeared in the DCEU within the 2017 theatrical cut of Justice League. This is set in Ohio. Presumably, this is what Muschietti intends to for with for his vision of The Flash movie. In The CW’s live-action The Flash series, the city is set in Missouri though the show is filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia.

What is Central City like in DC’s The Flash?

Very little is known about Central City of the DCEU except that at one point during the formation of the Justice League, Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne broke into Barry Allen’s apartment to recruit him as a member. Wayne introduced himself to the meta-human even though the latter denied being the person on the print out of security footage who ran in ultra-high speed.

It would be great to get a much better feel of what Central City is like in The Flash, especially comparison to Metropolis and Gotham. How unique is the hometown compared to other past depictions in other media? What about its inhabitants? Plus what sort of mood or color scheme will it have?

The Flash stars Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Ron Livingston, Kiersey Clemons, Maribel Verdú, Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Rudy Mancuso, and Ben Affleck.

Andy Muschietti is directing from a screenplay by Christina Hodson based on a screen story by Joby Harold, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, Barbara Muschietti and Michael Disco are producing. Marianne Jenkins serves as an executive producer.

The high-speed multiversal superhero film is being produced by The Disco Factory in association with Double Dream and DC Studios. Warner Bros. Pictures is distributing.

The Flash is set to exit the Speed Force and hit theaters June 16, 2023.
