A major recast could be on the horizon for The Mandalorian
Rumors suggest that a former character on The Mandalorian could return in the form of a recast.
The Mandalorian is gearing up to return to Disney Plus with its third season. After a two-year-plus wait, Din Djarin and Grogu (a.k.a. Baby Yoda) will be back on screens in March when the Star Wars juggernaut makes its long-awaited comeback to screens.
One face that you probably won’t see in the new season is Cara Dune. While the character was a fan-favorite, actress Gina Carano was fired from the show after making some controversial social media posts, which Lucasfilm described in a statement as “abhorrent” and “unacceptable”.
The character has not resurfaced in any Star Wars show since, most notably Mandalorian spinoff The Book of Boba Fett, but it seemed that Lucasfilm also had no plans to bring her back via a recast. However, a new report suggests that this could be realistic possibility in the future.
Will Cara Dune be recast in The Mandalorian?
A report from Giant Freakin Robot suggests that Lucasfilm may be open to recasting Cara Dune in the near-future, so that a new actress can take on the part that Carano played in the first two seasons.
While it’s important to take all rumors with a pinch of salt, this isn’t the first time that the topic of recasting the character has come up. While Lucasfilm did say at the time that recasting wasn’t on the cards, The Hollywood Reporter stated shortly after Carano’s firing that insiders expect Cara Dune will be recast at some point in the future “for both storyline and merchandising reasons”.
We’ll have to wait and see how – or if – it pans out in the future. But in the meantime, don’t be expecting to see any version of Cara Dune in The Mandalorian season 3.
The Mandalorian season 3 premieres on Disney Plus on Wednesday, March 1.
