DC gets rid of the Justice League and brings in something different
By Mark Lynch
DC makes a bold move by making the Titans the Justice League’s replacement as the best superhero team in the world.
In the middle of 2022, DC Comics announced that the Justice League would die. In Issue No. 1 of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, it looked like DC made good on their promise. However, the League wasn’t dead. They were just in a different part of the multiverse.
In the final issue of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, the Justice League disbanded. In a way, the League as DC Comics fans knew it was actually dead. That doesn’t mean the universe wouldn’t have protectors. After a talk, Batman approached Nightwing with an offer to lead the Justice League.
In Nightwing No. 100, Batman and Nightwing visited Alfred Pennyworth’s grave. The conversation of Dick Grayson leading the Justice League came up again. Dick was hesitant. He was still in the process of changing Bludhaven for the better. Later in that issue, Heartless caused a prison break. After Nightwing and the Titans regained order in Bludhaven, Dick Grayson realized he could do something big, but he wasn’t going to lead the Justice League. Dick made the Titans the premiere team in DC Comics and brought their base to Bludhaven.
Nightwing saw that the Bludhaven prison was a stain on the city. It definitely shouldn’t be the first thing people see when they come to the city. He bought the prison and promised to make it something better. He did so by making it the Titans base of operations. Now, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg, Beast Boy, Flash, and Donna Troy will join Nightwing as the Titans become *the* superhero team in DC Comics.
The Justice League is like the Avengers. They’re the greatest superhero team in their respective company. The problem is that sometimes you need to shake things up. The Titans being the universe’s best team is a brilliant move. It’s a new set of faces taking on the universe’s biggest problems.
Sure, some of them have been on the Justice League or the Justice League of America’s roster. But this seems different. There isn’t a Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman watching over them. This is the first time they’ll have to make it on their own as the first line of defense on Earth. Each of them have protected the world and helped save the universe since they were teenagers. Nevertheless, seeing the Titans elite team in DC Comics shows faith in their creative team and how you never know what’s going to happen next.
