James Gunn has made it clear he was not responsible for the decision to cancel Titans and Doom Patrol: “The decision to end the series precedes us.”

Since taking over as the new co-CEOs of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran have been tasked with making a lot of decisions about the future of the DC Comics television and cinematic franchises.

In looking ahead to the future, the pair have been cleaning house a bit as they look to usher in a new era for DC Comics. Many of these moves have created a lot of controversy among DC fans and put Gunn and Safran in hot water among fans who have been quick to express their displeasure with the moves being made.

So when news broke that HBO Max had canceled Titans and Doom Patrol after four seasons, fans understandably took aim at Gunn and Safran — calling them out for canceling the beloved superhero dramas. However, as Gunn has made clear, the decision was not one made by him or Safran.

Did James Gunn cancel Titans and Doom Patrol?

After word broke that Titans and Doom Patrol would be ending with their current fourth seasons, Twitter users began to call out James Gunn and Peter Safran for axing yet another pair of beloved properties. However, it turns out that Gunn and Safran were not responsible for the cancellation of the shows. As Gunn revealed, that decision precedes DC’s new leadership.

“The decision to end the series precedes us,” Gunn revealed on Twitter when called out about the decision to cancel Titans and Doom Patrol. “But I certainly wish the best for the talented group of creators, actors, and the rest of the crew that produced both shows.”

While Gunn and Safron have been making a lot of changes at DC, it does make sense that the pair were not responsible for the decisions to cancel Titans and Doom Patrol. The two shows wrapped before Gunn and Safron were brought on as co-CEOs, meaning the decision to end the shows would have come from their predecessor.
