Superman and Lois season 4 updates: Has it been renewed?
Will Superman and Lois season 4 happen or are we going to have to bid farewell to The CW’s superhero series?
Superman and Lois has been one of The CW‘s most successful shows of all time. It stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the super couple with twin sons, as they all decide to move to Smallville to start a new life outside of the city. The show has been met with critical acclaim for its mature writing, beautiful cinematography and innovative approach to the classic story. It’s also one of the network’s two most-watched shows.
Unfortunately, its fate has been up in the air since the network was bought by Nexstar, as that sale resulted in the cancellation of the majority of The CW’s superhero programming. And with Warner Bros. and Discovery’s merger, WBD was not rushing in to save them.
However, in spite of the uncertainty, a promising update has finally come in regards to the show’s future, as DC Studios co-chairman and CEO James Gunn revealed that the show will likely continue for “one or two more seasons”.
Is Superman and Lois season 4 happening?
From James Gunn and Peter Safran’s comments, it sounds like Superman and Lois season 4 could happen after all. Gunn himself acknowledged that “it’s a show everybody likes” so “it’s going to keep going for a little bit”.
It’s important to acknowledge that The CW has yet to renew the show for a fourth season. After its sale to Nexstar, it will be significantly cutting down on its scripted content, so even it’s successful shows could end up getting cancelled. Superman and Lois is one of its most successful shows, but it’s also more expensive to produce – something Nexstar also wants to cut down on.
Taking all of that into account, it seems that DC is happy for Superman and Lois to continue on for at most two more seasons. With DC Studios looking to give audiences a single coherent DC Universe, the show’s days are probably numbered, but since James Gunn’s Man of Steel movie, Superman: Legacy, isn’t released until 2025, that gives The CW series two more years to entertain us.
If The CW decides against renewing the show, HBO Max could very well be the place where it lands. After all, it reportedly performed very well there whenever its first and second season premiered on it.
A lot is still uncertain at this point in time, but a vote of confidence from DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safran will surely make Superman and Lois fans rest easier than anything The CW has said in recent months.
Superman and Lois season 3 premieres on The CW on Tuesday, March 14, at 8/7c.
