Superman and Lois

It pains me to even write this. Superman and Lois is not just one of the best shows on TV today, it’s one of the greatest comic book TV shows ever made and quite frankly one of the best adaptations of Superman and Lois Lane we have ever seen. Unfortunately, it’s part of The CW and that just doesn’t bode well for any show that is part of The CW.

The network’s evolution into whatever it is new owners Nexstar want it to be has resulted in a mass cancellation that has seen successful superhero shows like StargirlLegends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman all cut down before they should have been. While The Flash and Superman and Lois survived the cull and will return for new seasons in 2023, the days of all TV shows on the network could be numbered.

The one thing that could save Superman and Lois from being cancelled after season 3 is the fact that it’s one of the network’s two most-watched shows and Nexstar is all about those on-the-night ratings, but with the new owners looking to produce cheaper programming, where does that leave expensive shows like this one? And with all of the change at Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios wanting one shared universe of heroes across film and TV, will Superman and Lois be left out in the cold?

The good news is that James Gunn did reveal that Superman and Lois should have “one or two more seasons” left in it, which means WBD is happy for it to continue on until their new DC Universe comes into play. But what if The CW doesn’t want to renew it for another season? Will Warner be willing to host the show themselves on HBO Max, or does the show’s fate rely on solely on Nexstar’s decision?
