Gotham Knights

Remember all of what we just said about Nexstar having a new direction in mind for The CW? Unfortunately, something tells us that Gotham Knights isn’t part of that new direction. The network has a desire to produce content for what they believe is the average CW viewer, 58 year olds, so a Batman-show-that’s-not-really-a-Batman-show that kills off Batman early on and focuses on teenagers and twentysomethings doesn’t seem like it would be part of that line-up.

The first trailer for the show received something of a divisive response, with fans criticising its concept and more in the hours after it premiered. And it goes without saying that this is not the kind of response The CW would want one of their new shows to receive.

This one’s a bit of a wild card because it hasn’t premiered yet and we really don’t know how it’s going to perform. If it’s a huge hit, we could see The CW renewing it for one more season until the transitional period is over. After all, given its more grounded premise, and lack of costumes on the show, it probably is cheaper to produce than your average CW superhero show, but after the negative response to the first trailer, it’s going to need to be amazing to hold those curious viewers after its pilot episode.

Another thing that might work against it? DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran had no comment about the show’s fate when asked about it during their DC Universe slate reveal.
