Secret Wars may be bringing back this Avengers legend (and it’s not who you think!)

Avengers: Secret Wars is the MCU’s next Endgame-level event, and it could bring back this Marvel legend from the first Avengers movie.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is slowly building towards its next cataclysmic event through the gradual introduction of Kang the Conqueror. Ever since the Avengers defeated Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios has been introducing audiences to the multiverse – something that will continue to become pivotal in the movies and Disney Plus shows ahead.

The Multiverse Saga will all come to a head in phase six with 2026’s Avengers: Secret Wars, which will be the sixth Avengers movie (after 2025’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty). What that movie could entail remains to be seen, but the fact that it is based on one of the most iconic and well-known Marvel Comics ever written is an indicator that it could be the MCU’s biggest movie of all time.

According to a new report, we could see a familiar face make his presence felt in that movie (along with his own team).

Agents of SHIELD rumored to return in Avengers: Secret Wars

According to Giant Freakin Robot, the Agents of SHIELD will return in Avengers: Secret Wars, led by none other than Clark Gregg’s Agent Phil Coulson. As fans of the MCU will know, Gregg appeared in the majority of Phase One movies as Coulson, playing his most significant role in The Avengers – where the character was killed by Loki. He would then go on to reprise that role in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, which ran for seven seasons on ABC.

If this rumor turns out to be true, it would be quite monumental. Not only would it bring Clark Gregg back to the MCU movies, it would mark the cinematic debut of many of the characters who featured in Agents of SHIELD – a show that was initially considered a part of the MCU but has seemingly been retroactively written out of its canon (since it wasn’t produced by Marvel Studios). But when you think about it, the Multiverse Saga could finally be the perfect opportunity for Marvel to address the SHIELD elephant in the room.

Secret Wars will obviously unite the titular team of MCU heroes, but the line-up will be different than the ones we saw in previous movies. However, due to the beauty of the multiverse, we could see some familiar faces from alternate timelines and universes join the Avengers in Secret Wars, and if this is indeed the case, it might give Marvel Studios an opportunity to explain away Agents of SHIELD as taking place in a parallel timeline (even if it should be considered canon).

As always, it’s important to take all rumors and reports with a pinch of salt until officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, but this just highlights the endlessly exciting possibilities for Secret Wars.
