The Last of Us episode 5 release date: When does the next episode come out?

When is The Last of Us season 1, episode 5 coming out? What can you expect in the next installment? 

The fourth episode of The Last of Us brought Kathleen into play, with Melanie Lynskey playing the role. It also spent some time with Joel and Ellie.

If this writer is correct and the TV show follows the path of the video game, the fifth episode of The Last of Us on HBO Max will start off slow then pick up quickly. After going up against a group of extremists, Joel and Ellie will hopefully get back on their journey and make their way to their next location. What happens at the end of this episode will make fans upset that they have to wait a week for the next one.

The pair will likely find out that their journey is far from over, as more infected and more people trying to kill them and take what they have will be waiting for them in the world out there. As they continue to realize this, the show will set up the final chapters of the first season. And, if you think the people in episode 4 were bad, wait until you meet the next group of people.

When does The Last of Us episode 5 come out?

UPDATE 2/5/2023: In a surprising move, HBO has confirmed The Last of Us season 1 episode 5, titled “Endure and Survive”, is set to air on Friday, Feb. 10, at 9:00 pm Eastern Standard Time, 8:00 pm Central Time, and 6:00 pm Pacific Time on HBO Max and HBO on-demand. This is most likely because the Super Bowl is taking place next Sunday night, taking The Last of Us‘ usual time slot.

Though the Super Bowl does not air on HBO, the network likely figured it’d be too much competition and they’d lose viewers, with NFL fans dedicated to watching the biggest sporting event of the year in the United States.

According to HBO, the fifth episode will still air on the channel on Sunday, Feb. 12 like initially planned at 9:00 pm Eastern Standard Time, however viewers can access it early on Friday using HBO Max or HBO on-demand:

The Last of Us will not adopt the half season break format that other HBO Max and streaming shows have been attempting in recent months, though this change in schedule has us wondering if they’ll move other episodes around in the future. The Oscars are coming up on a Sunday in March, so it’s possible the network will decide to move that week’s episode just like they are for the Super Bowl weekend. HBO Max shows always stick to a tight schedule, so even if the episodes arrive early, we can always expect them to premiere weekly.
