Who plays Kathleen in HBO’s The Last of Us?
The Last of Us episode 4 introduced us to a new character with Kathleen. Who is the character and where have you seen the actress who portrays her before?
HBO and HBO Max’s The Last of Us only has two primary characters in Joel and Ellie. That means that we see a lot of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey (and we are very thankful for that!).
The pair’s names may be the only two to appear in the opening credits, but their characters aren’t the only ones we’ll meet along the way. In fact, we’ve already met some key players in the video game adaptation, such as Tess (Anna Torv), Tommy (Gabriel Luna), Marlene (Merle Dandridge), and Bill and Frank (Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett).
Episode 4 introduces us to Kathleen, a relentless leader of a revolutionary movement in Kansas City. If you’re wondering why you don’t remember the character from the video game, that’s because she’s an original character created for the show. If you’re also wondering why she looks familiar, here’s who plays her and what you might have seen her in.
The Last of Us Kathleen actress
Kathleen is played by Melanie Lynskey. A veteran of the big and small screen, she appeared in a number of major films throughout the ’90s and 2000s, such as Heavenly Creatures, Ever After, Coyote Ugly, and Sweet Home Alabama. She also had a prominent role on CBS’ Two and a Half Men, appearing over the course of its 12 seasons (originally as a regular before shifting to a recurring role).
Her starring role in Hello I Must Be Going marked a significant turning point in her career. It led to acclaim for Lynskey’s performance and began a shift towards more leading roles, particularly in independent films such as I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore, And Then I Go, Sadie, and Lady of the Manor.
She now leads Showtime’s Yellowjackets with a performance that has also earned her critical acclaim, earning her a Critics Choice Award and an Emmy nomination. She will reprise that role in the show’s second season this year.
Needless to say, we’re excited to see her appear in The Last of Us and can’t wait to see what kind of role Kathleen plays on the show.
