The Flash season 9 is the show’s final season. How many episodes do fans have left with the beloved Scarlet Speedster and his loved ones?

The Flash is back for one more adventure. The beloved CW series – the biggest hit that the network has ever seen, in fact – returns for its final ever season, which will conclude Barry Allen’s journey as the Scarlet Speedster.

Last year was the end of an era for DCTV on The CW as the network’s sale resulted in the cancellation of the bulk of Arrowverse programming, with DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and DC’s Stargirl all coming to premature ends, to the understandable outrage of fans.

The Flash is now all that remains of the universe, and it will look to serve as a fitting conclusion to the corner of the superhero genre that changed the game for comic book TV programming.

If you’re prepared for The Flash season 9, here’s how many episodes you can expect to find in the show’s final chapter.

How many episodes of The Flash season 9 are there?

The Flash season 9 consists of 13 episodes. That makes it the shortest season of the show’s entire run, as previous seasons ran for 18 – 23 episodes.

It had initially been rumored that star Grant Gustin requested a shorter episode count for season 9 before signing on, but those reports suggested that the season could come in around 15 episodes. The decision to go with 13 isn’t too surprising though, as it’s common practice for some long-running shows to bow out with shorter final seasons – and 13 is a pretty common episode count for short seasons.

One of the bonuses of shortened seasons is that the stories are usually a little more coherent than longer drawn-out ones (see: Arrow season 8), so hopes are high for The Flash season 9.

Regardless of the episode count, we’re just happy to have our Scarlet Speedster back on our screens for one more run.
