Fantastic Four: Michael Fassbender stuns in jaw-dropping “first look” trailer
It’s easy to see why Michael Fassbender was such a fan-favorite choice to play Doctor Doom in this awesome clip.
Fantastic Four may be the most exciting Marvel Studios movie on the horizon. Originally set to be one of the final chapters of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it will now act as the opener of Phase 6 – an announcement that came at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con from Kevin Feige himself.
Fantastic Four was initially announced back at Disney Investor Day 2020. With Disney’s acquisition of Fox, the movie rights to the characters were back with Marvel, meaning that we could finally see the iconic foursome of heroes join the MCU.
We’re still a while off from that happening (unless they pop up in any movies or TV shows beforehand), but that hasn’t stopped speculation about the project, particularly who will be playing the heroes and who will be playing their villain. Doctor Doom is a popular choice given that he is their arch-nemesis in the comics, and Michael Fassbender is a popular choice to play him. And with that comes some epic concepts from fans, a bit like this one.
What Michael Fassbender might look like as Doctor Doom in Fantastic Four
YouTube user Stryder HD has put together a wonderful concept trailer that imagines what the MCU’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie could look like. Using clips from various movies (including the previous Fantastic Four movies), this clip – titled a “First Look Trailer” – imagines that actors John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Zac Efron and Vin Diesel portray the title heroes. It also gives us a glimpse of what it could be like if Michael Fassbender played the role of Doctor Doom.
No doubt an exciting fan casting, Michael Fassbender is familiar with larger-than-life complex characters in superhero franchises. He played the younger version of Ian McKellen’s Magneto in the Fox X-Men movies, appearing in X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.
Is Michael Fassbender playing Doctor Doom in the MCU?
The role of Doctor Doom has yet to be cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While it remains unclear if that character will be the villain in the upcoming MCU movie, there is speculation that he will be introduced in the near future given that he plays such an integral role in Marvel Comics, and fans are longing for an accurate depiction of him on-screen – something Marvel Studios is more than capable of giving audiences.
A variant of Mr. Fantastic appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (in which he was indeed played by John Krasinski) but casting for the film has yet to take place.
That being said, Stryder HD has put together a very impressive fan cast in this teaser, and it goes without saying that Michael Fassbender would be an excellent choice for Doctor Doom.
When could Doctor Doom enter the MCU?
In addition to keeping fans in the dark regarding who might play Doctor Doom in the MCU, Marvel Studios is also keeping its cards close to its chest regarding when the character will arrive.
There were rumors the character would be introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Those rumors proved to be nothing more than rumors as the character was not in the film, or even mentioned in passing.
The most likely project to introduce the character in would be the upcoming Fantastic Four film and it’s entirely possible we could see the character debut in the film. There are early reports suggesting Doctor Doom will not be the main villain of the film. While this could be the case, that doesn’t mean the character couldn’t still be introduced even if in the post-credit scene.
Fantastic Four filming updates
After months (and years, let’s be honest) of speculation, it was confirmed that Fantastic Four would commence filming in early 2024. Director Matt Shakman made the announcement during an interview with The Wrap, adding that “it was just too hard to pass up” the opportunity to work on the movie as director given his positive experiences with MCU series WandaVision.
It feels like the wheels are in motion when it comes to bringing Fantastic Four to life, and that means that casting will likely be announced in the coming months.
And, honestly, if the fan teaser above proved anything, it’s that it would be awesome to see Michael Fassbender join the cast as the villain.
Fantastic Four is released in movie theaters on February 14, 2025.
