Kevin Costner may be joining the MCU after Yellowstone exit

The Yellowstone universe may live on without Kevin Costner’s character, but the actor could be about to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe instead.

Kevin Costner has been in the headlines all week after reports of his possible exit from Yellowstone may result in the show’s end. The movie star reportedly wanted to shoot the back half of season 5 in just one week, which may lead Showtime to abandon the show altogether and start a new spinoff focusing on a new character played by Matthew McConaughey instead.

It’s still not entirely clear if the show’s future is in jeopardy or not, but it does seem like the end of season 5 will be a turning point for the Yellowstone shared universe. Regardless of what happens, Costner reportedly plans to direct and star in Western Horizon.

However, a new rumor suggests that he may be about to join a different shared universe; the most famous one, in fact: The Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Kevin Cosnter rumored for MCU’s Vision Quest

A new report from Giant Freakin Robot suggests that Kevin Costner is in talks to join Marvel Studios’ Vision Quest. The upcoming Disney Plus series is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and stars Paul Bettany, who reprises his role as the android superhero Vision from the MCU movies. No word on who he would play if he does join the production.

We last saw Bettany appear as Vision in WandaVision, the first of the MCU Disney Plus shows, where he delivered a performance that earned him an Emmy nomination. He had to pull double duty at one point, playing the Vision we know and love (albeit a magical manifestation of him) and the White Vision – the remnants of the original Vision reprogrammed by S.W.O.R.D. to do their bidding.

The door had been left open for the character’s return, but it’s unclear if he will ever cross paths with Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) ever again. It seems that Vision Quest would set up the character’s reintroduction to the MCU, but perhaps take him in a different direction.

As for if Costner actually joins the cast of Vision Quest, it’s best to wait for an official confirmation from Marvel Studios before getting too excited about rumors. Nevertheless, he would only be the most recent in a long line of Hollywood legends to show up in the shared universe of superheroes – a list that recently added veterans like Julia Louis-Dreyfuss and Harrison Ford to it.
