The trailer for The Flash movie made its highly-anticipated debut at the Super Bowl. What happened in it and what can we expect from the movie?

For many DC fans, it seemed like this day would never arrive. That’s because it seemed like The Flash movie would never arrive. But Barry Allen is on his way, and even though he had trouble getting over the starting line, the finish line is finally in sight.

The film arrives in movie theaters this summer, but the promotion has officially begun with the release of its debut poster and its brand new trailer at the Super Bowl. This trailer is actually the second one, after a first look teaser released back at DC FanDome 2021 gave us our first glimpse of the DCEU movie.

That movie has a different purpose now, and its “Worlds Collide” plotline will see Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) travel back in time to save his mother, accidentally creating a rift in the timeline that will birth a  brand new DC Universe – one that James Gunn and Peter Safran will oversee. Before they get there, though, Barry will cross paths with some new heroes, old villains, and very familiar faces in The Flash.

The Flash trailer breakdown

First and foremost, we have to mention how The Flash movie trailer reveals the first official look at Michael Keaton back in his most famous role as Batman, 30 years after he last played the role in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns. Keaton’s Caped Crusader will act as a mentor to Barry, guiding him through the new timeline and helping him take down threats such as Michael Shannon’s General Zod and Antje Traue’s Faora-Ul from Man of Steel.

The new trailer also features the first real look at Sasha Calle in action as the DCEU’s Supergirl, another member of the world’s new Justice League, that is formed when she, the two Barry Allens, and Keaton’s Caped Crusader join forces to stop the movie’s threats. It also seems that Keaton’s hero will come out of retirement to help them. As director Andy Muschiettit revealed in the behind-the-scenes featurette:

"“As Bruce Wayne said, it’s like a retired vigilante, a half-solar-powered alien, and two idiots.”"

Right now, it seems like the pair will be battling the threat of Zod, and Faora-Ul, but there is also the belief that the film’s real villain will be the Dark Flash. The reason that they find themselves in this brave new world is down to the fact that Barry altered time to save his mother, and now he wants to save that timeline because it’s one in which his mother is alive.

Either way, we can’t wait to see Batman, the two Flashes, and Supergirl team up in what appears to be an epic showdown!
