This Guardians of the Galaxy actor may be the next to get his own Yellowstone spinoff.

The Yellowstone cinematic universe may be about to grow again. It’s a pretty wild sentence to say considering we’re talking about a television franchise but that’s how beloved TV has become over the past decade. And it might not get any bigger than Yellowstone.

Paramount’s juggernaut launched in 2018 and it has since launched two spinoffs, 1883 and 1923, both of which are prequels. Two more spinoffs are confirmed at this point, solidifying the future of the franchise – even if the future of the Kevin Costner-led original series is in jeopardy, with talks of Matthew McConaughey potentially replacing him in a new show.

However, a new rumor suggests another new Yellowstone spin-off series is in the works and that a Guardians of the Galaxy star could be playing the lead role.

Guardians of the Galaxy’s Kurt Russell rumored for new Yellowstone show

According to Giant Freakin Robot, veteran actor and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Kurt Russell could be about to star in his own spinoff series, which would be set in the present day.

While it has yet to be confirmed by Paramount, it’s believable that a name like Russell’s would be attached the franchise. The Yellowstone saga is renowned for casting legendary names in the lead roles, with Kevin Costner headlining the original series, Sam Elliot and Tim McGraw starring in 1883, and Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren both leading 1923.

With Matthew McConaughey rumored as a potential replacement for Costner, it’s clear that the Yellowstone saga can draw star-power. If yet another series is indeed in the works, Russell would be another big name draw to headline. And let’s not forget that he knows his way around a Western (Tombstone, anyone?).

We always like to celebrate our favorite comic book and superhero stars landing new roles, so the possibility of seeing Marvel Cinematic Universe star Kurt Russell headline a Yellowstone series is very exciting indeed. Russell had a major role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as Ego the Living Planet, the father of Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt). He reprised the role in a voicing capacity for two episodes of MCU animated series What If…?.

As always, it’s best to take all rumors and reports with a pinch of salt until officially announced by Paramount, but a Kurt Russell-led Yellowstone show is an exciting one nontheless.
