Who is David Jones? This is a question many Marvel fans have after Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania ended with a special dedication in his honor.

As fans headed out to theaters to see Marvel’s latest cinematic offering, they expected to leave theaters with some questions about how the film’s events would affect the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After all, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania was designed as a major piece of the puzzle that Marvel is assembling in building up to its next Avengers film, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

What fans who stuck around through the film’s credits in order to enjoy its post credits scenes likely had not expected was to find themselves asking about the identity of one David Jones.

As eagle-eyed fans noticed when watching the credits, Marvel’s newest film ends with a dedication to Jones. It was a move designed to honor Jones who sadly passed away of cancer last year, but it’s a move that has sparked a lot of conversation among fans eager to know Jones’ role with the film.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania: David Jones dedication explained

If the name David Jones did not immediately ring a bell, it’s likely due to the fact that Jones was not a part of the film’s cast. In fact, he doesn’t seem to even have a direct connection to Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. He was however a member of the Disney family with connections to one of the studio’s other big franchises and even played a role in designing an iconic Epcot ride.

Jones was best known for his contributions as a visual effects supervisor on the original Star Wars film, one which helped to define a generation and inspired countless filmmakers over the years. In addition to working on Star Wars, Jones was also involved in the creation of the theme park ride Choose Your Tomorrow for Horizons at Disney World’s Epcot Center.

While a Marvel connection is not directly clear, it seems Disney might have looked to use its latest theatrical release to honor the late Jones — who is likely to have inspired many in the industry over the years including those who worked on the visual effects for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.
