15 best comic book romances of all time
By Mark Lynch
10. Hughie and Starlight
Comic book: The Boys
Some people read The Boys comic book and only see the violence. Other readers saw the depth and meaning of the story. It was about love. As Rebecca Butcher said, “Love is two people finding each other.” This is exactly what happened to Hughie and Annie January, a.k.a. Starlight.
Hughie was awful to Annie, but she forgave him. She saw that the traumatic moments of Hughie’s life turned him into someone he isn’t. He also acknowledged his faults and that Annie was the kindest and most loving person he’d ever met. In the end, despite all the horrific things that happened to them, they found each other and stayed together.
9. Apollo and Midnighter
Comic book: Midnighter and Apollo
There’s no other way to describe Midnighter than narcissistic. Considering what he’s capable of, it makes sense. You’d assume that would make him incapable of love. That would be incorrect. Only a god could love someone like him and accept all of his arrogance. However, Midnighter can be romantic in between the brutality.
Seeing Midnighter become emotionally vulnerable with Apollo added depth to his character. It’s part of what makes their relationship special and Apollo brings that out of him. Hopefully the live-action DCU will make their relationship everything it’s supposed to be in The Authority. That’s including them getting married.
