Rick and Michonne reunite in first look at The Walking Dead spinoff

Both halves of The Walking Dead’s most iconic couple find their way back to each other in the first look at the TWD Rick and Michonne spinoff.

As Walking Dead fans continue to get used to a world without The Walking Dead, all eyes are firmly set on the fragments of the ever-growing TWD Universe that remain: The spinoffs. Long-running offshoot Fear The Walking Dead will also conclude later this year, but three new spinoffs will tell new stories in that world… new stories focused on old friends.

One of those (perhaps the most anticipated of them all) will reunite Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira as Rick Grimes and Michonne in a six-part spinoff series that will allow us all to catch up with them for the first time in years.

Production on the series has officially commenced in Atlanta, Georgia and to commemorate the event, AMC has released a beautiful first look image that teases the pair’s eventual reunion. Check it out below:

Adding to that, the network also unveiled a behind-the-scenes image, showcasing Lincoln and Gurira’s chairs.

The show will pick up years after the characters were separated on The Walking Dead and focus on their attempts to find their way back to each other, and perhaps even the people they were.

Needless to say, fans are ecstatic at the thought of seeing Rick and Michonne reunite. Rick left the show as a regular character early on in season 9 when Lincoln exited the AMC production, with the character being rescued from imminent death by the Civic Republic Military. Gurira then left the show the following season after Michonne discovered there was a chance that Rick could be alive. They both returned for the series finale in a teaser that set the stage for the spinoff show.

The show was initially set to have a 2023 release date, but AMC subsequently announced that it would air in early 2024 instead. In the meantime, fans can enjoy the eighth and final season of Fear The Walking Dead when it kicks off in May, The Walking Dead: Dead City in June, and the upcoming Daryl Dixon spinoff in fall 2023.

This The Walking Dead Universe era is an exciting time for the fans, and it goes without saying that there is even more excitement about the possibility of seeing Rick and Michonne reunited again.
