The Red Death made her mark on Central City in last week’s chilling episode of The Flash. The show’s final season introduced the new villain pretty quickly, but it was only in this episode that we truly got to know who she was.
An unhinged version of Ryan Wilder from an alternate timeline, she needed The Flash’s speed to power her cosmic treadmill. But when her plan backfired, she vowed revenge on this timeline and the hero responsible for foiling her.
The Red Death saga is expected to conclude in the upcoming fifth episode of the season, which will continue the stories left open in last week’s “Part 1”. Here is all you need to know about it.
The Flash season 9 episode 5 release date
The Flash season 9 episode 5, titled “The Mask of the Red Death, Part 2”, airs on The CW this Wednesday, March 8 2023, at 8:00 p.m. ET.
The show will continue to release new episodes on Wednesdays until its series finale in May (with the exception of one or two hiatus weeks along the way).

After coming face-to-face with the Red Death last week, Barry Allen has made a dangerous new enemy. This evil version of Ryan Wilder can’t get back to her own timeline anymore, so she has vowed to destroy The Flash’s world instead. Can Team Flash bind together to stop her?

"THE ERA OF THE RED DEATH – As the Red Death wreaks havoc on Central City, Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) come up with a plan and turn to Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) for help. Barry is faced with what he thinks was his greatest mistake, and the Red Death’s greatest success. Khione (Danielle Panabaker) wants to help Team Flash, but Barry can’t risk losing her. Joe (Jesse L. Martin) gives Barry a very much needed pep talk."
The Flash season 9 episode 5 trailer
The trailer for The Flash season 9 episode 5 aired right after the conclusion of the previous episode. It teased the outcome of events that transpired in “Part 1” as the Red Death will seek revenge on the Scarlet Speedster by destroying Central City.
This episode will also likely see the return of the real Ryan Wilder, as Javicia Leslie is expected to pull double duty to bring Batwoman back to screens one more time.

After the previous episode aired, The CW unveiled the first look at episode 5 via four new promotional stills (although one of them we had seen already). Normally, the network would have released a few photos prior to the previous episode’s airing, but given that we’re in between a two-parter here, it made sense to hold them until after Part 1 aired.

This photo was actually released last year as an exclusive first look at the ninth and final season of The Flash. At the time, fans thought it was from the premiere, so it’s quite interesting to learn now that it was actually a photograph from the fifth episode of the season.
Nevertheless, Barry is looking pretty concerned in the S.T.A.R. Labs training room. Has The Red Death showed up at Team Flash HQ?
Joe West has been having trouble with the fact that Central City isn’t a safe place and he doesn’t want to raise his daughter there. But after Cecile protected Jenna in the most recent episode, he realized that they were all safe as long as Cecile was looking after them.
