When the Avengers next assemble in Avengers 5, the lineup of Avengers facing off against Kang is going to look very different than those who faced Thanos.

It’s been years since the Avengers last assembled on the big screen to face off against a common enemy and a lot has changed over these years. In the years since Avengers: Endgame, Marvel has introduced viewers to countless new heroes and it seems these new heroes are about to become the new face of the Avengers.

During an appearance at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference, Disney CEO Bob Iger opened up about the upcoming plans for one of Disney’s most successful franchises. While looking toward the future, Iger dropped a major update on the decision to reunite the Avengers by turning back to the Avengers franchise. In short? It’s out with the old and in with the new.

"“If you look at the trajectory of Marvel over the next five years, you’re going to see a lot of newness,” Iger teased of what’s to come for the MCU. “We’re going to turn back to the Avengers franchise, but with a whole set of different Avengers.”"

The comment made by Iger seems to suggest when the Avengers next assemble to battle Kang in The Kang Dynasty, the team will consist of new faces rather than bringing together the Avengers team who assembled to battle Loki, Ultron, and Thanos. Honestly, it’s not entirely too shocking considering only three of the original Avengers remain alive in the MCU and all of their futures remain very much up in the air.

Who might be on the Avengers team in The Kang Dynasty?

Because of how much the MCU has grown in recent years, there are truly endless options for who could end up on the Avengers team in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Here’s a quick breakdown of the current heroes and heroes set to be introduced in the MCU in upcoming films who could end up being called to join the battle against Kang as part of the Avengers 5 team:

When does Avengers 5 release?

Currently, Marvel is slated to release Avengers: The Kang Dynasty on May 2, 2025. If Marvel sticks to the film’s current release date, more than six years will have passed since the last Avengers movie hit theaters with the release of Avengers: Endgame on April 26, 2019.

What movies will be released before Avengers: The Kang Dynasty?

  • Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania –  February 17, 2023
  • Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 – May 5, 2023
  • The Marvels – November 10, 2023
  • Captain American: New World Order – May 3, 2024
  • Thunderbolts – July 26, 2024

Before the next Avengers movie hits theaters, Marvel will release a total of eight films as part of Phase 5 and Phase 6. It’s unclear how many of the films will have direct implications in building toward the story, but given how connected Marvel’s projects have been it seems likely each will play some role — even if just a small one — in laying the groundwork for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
