The Last of Us episode 10 release updates: Will there be a tenth episode?
By Mark Lynch
Will there be a tenth episode of The Last of Us season 1? What does the future hold for the show? Find out right here.
The Last of Us was an accomplishment beyond what anyone could have hoped. From start to finish the HBO show captivated its viewers. The creative team didn’t just take the source material and leave it as is. They added to it.
Frank and Bill’s relationship was more than just Bill being cranky. Kathleen’s character didn’t exist in the game; she was created specifically for HBO and was an unforgettable addition to it. Fans of the game even got to see Ellie’s mother – something the source material also didn’t have.
Overall, The Last of Us could now be the blueprint on how to take a video game and adapt it for a TV show. It wouldn’t be shocking if the producers of comic book movies and shows hired members of its creative team in the future, or found another way to emulate its success. This is what a good adaptation looks like. As great as season 1 of The Last of Us was, it’ll be a while before we see Joel and Ellie again.
Will there be an episode 10 of The Last of Us?
While there will be a tenth episode of The Last of Us, that will take place in its second season. Unfortunately, that means that the first season is over.
The season 1 finale aired on Sunday, March 12. It was an episode that likely divided people when they saw how Joel would risk all of humanity for Ellie. A shocking, but fitting conclusion for the first season.
Thankfully, the show will be back as HBO renewed it for a second season pretty quickly after its debut. As for when season 2 will premiere, you’ll likely be waiting a while, perhaps even two years, to see what’s next.
HBO doesn’t rush their shows, especially their popular ones. The next seasons of Euphoria and House of the Dragons are both set to be released at least two years after their previous seasons. Fans can probably expect the same from The Last of Us. Could it be released sooner? Of course. Nevertheless, HBO won’t make the mistake they did with the final season of Game of Thrones, delivering a rushed season that almost ruined that show’s legacy.
Thankfully, unlike Game of Thrones, the source material for the next two seasons is already written. There’s too much going on in the second game to make this one season and The Last of Us creative team is too good to fumble what they have.
Right now, a 2024 release is looking like the earliest possible return for the show, but a 2025 release isn’t off the table either. We’ll just have to wait and see.
