5. Loren Lester

You’d be hard-pressed to hear a voice that sounds more like Robin than Loren Lester’s. The voice of the Robin that many of us grew up with, Lester voiced Dick Grayson and his heroic alter-ego in the legendary Batman: The Animated Series from 1992 until 1995.

Giving us a Robin that was confident and mature for his age, Lester delivered an authentic performance that indicated we could trust this version of the character as both a competent hero and engaging protagonist. He was consistent throughout, imbuing Robin with a cool confidence and youthful approach that worked well with his overarching maturity.

Some of his finest work came in the “Robin’s Reckoning” two-parter that delved into Dick’s backstory and allowed us to see how he became Batman’s partner.

Lester reprised the role in spin-off film Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero and sequel series The New Batman Adventures (which documented Dick’s evolution into Nightwing). He also portrayed the character in video games The Adventures of Batman & Robin and Batman: The Rise of Sin Tzu. He then returned to the role decades later in 2017’s Batman & Harley Quinn.

For many, Lester’s voice performance gave us the definitive version of Robin. And, as someone who grew up with this version of the character, it’s easy to see why. This is, by and large, exactly how the Boy Wonder should sound.
