The Flash season 9 has been airing over this past month, but can Arrowverse fans expect a new episode on The CW tonight?
Longtime viewers of The CW are preparing for the end of an era, as veteran series The Flash is gearing up to bow out once and for all. It’s the final one of the original class of Arrowverse shows left on the network, and its success has ensured that it will get to bow out on its own terms with one final season.
Its ninth and final season has been airing on the network since February, and it’s received something of a mixed response from audiences who were questioning plenty of the creative decisions along the way – including but not limited to the death of a major character being handled in a noneventful manner, and the baffling decision to have a filler episode in its own final season.
Nevertheless, The Flash is known for its heart and there’s been enough in season 9 so far to keep fans entertained. But can they expect to watch another adventure this Wednesday night?
Is The Flash new tonight, March 22?
Unfortunately, The Flash will not air a new episode tonight. While Wednesday is indeed the show’s regular night to air new episodes (and has been since its move to Wednesdays for season 8), a change to the schedule means that it won’t air this week.
The show has taken a one-week hiatus from airing this week. No official reason has been given for the absence, but network TV shows often take a couple of one-week breaks (or longer on some occasions) to ensure that the episodes that air on TV don’t catch up to the ones that are being produced/filmed. While filming on The Flash season 9 has been completed, the final few episodes will likely still need post-production editing.
When does The Flash season 9 return to The CW?
The Flash season 9 returns to The CW next Wednesday, March 29 2023, at 8:00 p.m. ET to air the seventh episode of the season.
Titled “Wildest Dreams”, the episode will see Nicole Maines reprise her Supergirl role as Nia Nal/Dreamer to guest-star in an adventure that will see Nia and Iris fall into a fever dream and explore different possibilities for their lives.
