Loki season 2 release date, cast, and everything we know so far

Loki season 2 finally has a release date! Disney and Marvel just announced the news on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Unfortunately, we have to wait until October to watch the new episodes.

Loki is one of the best Marvel shows we’ve seen on Disney Plus so far. The series premiered in June 2021, and it’s been a while since we’ve seen much new information about Loki season 2.

Well, there’s been a few developments about Loki season 2, and we wanted to share everything we know about what’s going on with the new season.

We’ll share more information about Loki season 2 as we find out. The latest update was published on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Loki season 2 release date

We finally know when we can watch Loki season 2 on Disney+. On Tuesday, May 16, Marvel shared the Loki season 2 release date on Twitter, along with the release date for Echo.

Loki season 2 premieres on Disney+ on Oct. 6, 2023. New episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays throughout the second season.

This is a little bit later than we were expecting for Loki season 2. For a long time, we’ve been expecting Loki season 2 would be released in the summer of 2023. That’s what Kevin Feige said during the announcement at San Diego Comic-Con 2022.

Owen Wilson also revealed that the new season will be released during the end of summer or even September, according to ComicBook.com.

Here’s what Wilson said:

"“And I think that’s coming out end of the summer or September.”"

Secret Invasion will be the next Marvel series. It’s going to be released on June 21, 2023, followed by Loki season 2 in October.

Remember, this is Marvel. There’s always the chance that we’re going to get a secret cameo from an established star/character, introduce a new character, or tease a potential new series or film in Loki season 2. With Marvel, anything is possible at all times.

How many episodes are in Loki season 2?

Loki season 2 will consist of six episodes. That’s also how many episodes were in the first season of the hit series.

I would love for some of the Marvel shows to be a little longer than six episodes. We’re going to get that with Daredevil: Born Again, but Loki is one of the Marvel show faves. It’d be great to see a few more episodes in season 3, if it happens.

Is Loki season 2 still filming?

No, Loki has finished filming, which is obviously great news. Production on the second season wrapped in October 2022. With production ending so late in the year, it pretty much ruled out an earlier in 2023 release date. Waiting a full year after production ends isn’t exactly normal for a show to premiere isn’t exactly normal, but Disney and Marvel are being so strategic about the releases of these shows. It makes sense why we have to wait so long given the bigger things Marvel has going on with its schedule.

We haven’t seen a trailer for Loki season 2 so far. We haven’t even seen its own teaser yet, but Disney did give a few sneak peeks at Loki season 2 in its 2023 hype reel.

Is Loki season 2 affected by the Hollywood strikes?

While there are a handful of Marvel titles that have been affected by the WGA and SAG strikes, Loki is not currently among the list of shows affected by the strike. Filming on the season was completed in the fall of 2022, with the show then entering post-production which has not been affected in any way by the strike.

The only possible way the show could be affected by the strike is if SAG-AFTRA is still striking in October as the cast would be unable to promote the series upon its release if the strike is still unfolding.

Loki season 2 spoilers and rumors

If you’re eager to know what rumors are floating around ahead of Loki season 2, there are a lot of random reports floating around the internet about the show’s second season. Here are a few of the biggest spoiler-tinged rumors currently being discussed by insiders (Warning, potential spoilers ahead): 

• The Cosmic Circus reports that a key season 2 moment will unfold at the World’s Columbian Exposition, set in 1893, in Chicago, Illinois. A “sizeable” action sequence is expected to unfold between Loki, Mobius, Victor Timely, and Miss Minutes.
• Speaking of Miss Minutes, rumor has it she will return in season 2 and perhaps have a more sizable role this time around.
• Insider Account Can We Get Some Toast has revealed that the season premiere will reveal that Loki was sent to the past and will spend the episode slipping back and forth between the past and present timelines. They also report that the episode will introduce us to a new character named Ouroboros played by Ke Huy Quan, who invited the TVA’s technology.
• Can We Get Some Toast has also revealed that we will see at least one new variant in season 2, but it won’t be a Loki variant. Instead, the variant we’re expected to meet in season 2 will be a Sylvie variant who is rumored to be a general at the TVA played by Kate Dickie.

Is Loki renewed for season 3?

As of spring 2023, we haven’t heard anything about the future of Loki. There’s obviously a chance that we could see the show renewed for a new season, but it’s unlikely that we’ll find that out anytime soon. It will be really interesting to see what happens in Loki season 2 and if there’s potential for another season.
