6. Game of Thrones season 2

Game of Thrones season 2 is okay. There are good moments and some that are more “meh,” but overall, it’s probably just the least memorable season of the series.

The Battle of Blackwater is definitely one of the biggest highlights of the second season. The tension leading up to the fight is well-constructed, and it’s shot very well. And when Tyrion rallies the troops and led the charge, it’s a moment that gives fans goosebumps. We also get to meet characters like Stannis Baratheon and Melisandre, who are essential to some of the most interesting storylines this season.

My personal favorite part about the second season is Jon’s relationship with Ygritte. The start of their friendship, the way Ygritte teaches Jon about people — Wildlings specifically — and how to love is so genuine and enduring. Their back-and-forth before starting their romance is a fantastic part of the show overall.

But unfortunately, there are low points in season 2. The pacing is slow and meandering at times, and the focus on certain characters feels like it’s at the expense of others. And while we get to see some great character development, this is when the show starts to diverge from the source material and take liberties with the story, which doesn’t always work.

Despite the criticisms I have, season 2 still serves a purpose. The introduction of new players in the game sets up and makes viewers excited for what’s next.
