Secret Invasion release date: When does Marvel’s next Disney Plus show come out?
Marvel’s Secret Invasion looks to be the next live-action MCU series coming to Disney Plus? When can audiences expect it to premiere on the service?
A new year is upon us and for Marvel fans that means shifting their attention to whatever Marvel Studios property will debut on Disney Plus next. From the information made available up to this point, it appears Secret Invasion is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next live-action TV series stop on their small screen journey.
The show is based on the comic book storyline of the same name, which sees Earth invaded by an army of shape-shifting skrulls, and it stars Samuel L. Jackson, who makes his long-awaited return to the MCU as Nick Fury (in his first appearance since 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home). He isn’t the only returnee, though, as Ben Mendelsohn returns as Talos, Cobie Smulders is back as Agent Maria Hill, and Martin Freeman is also back as Everett Ross. They are joined by more huge names, such as Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke.
The first trailer for the show was released at Disney’s D23 Fan Expo event back in September, revealing the thriller-esque and more grounded tone that the show is going for. That said, when will it arrive on TV screens?.
Secret Invasion release date
Marvel’s Secret Invasion will premiere on Disney Plus on June 21, 2023. This release date was confirmed after months of speculation about whether or not it would release before the end of spring (which was its initially announced release window).
While fans initially hoped it might arrive in 2022, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed the show’s planned 2023 release window in a special presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, in which he revealed all of the upcoming titles in Phase 5 (and some from Phase 6) of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As things currently stand, this places it as the third title of the MCU to debut this year (after the February and May releases of films Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in theaters) but the first of the multiple live-action Marvel series set to arrive on Disney Plus.
Things have been up in the air for the MCU shows on Disney Plus as of late, because recent reports suggest that Marvel Studios could be adopting a “less is more” approach after the divisive response to the multitude of Phase Four titles. This could be reflected in the delayed releases of Secret Invasion and Loki season 2.
We’ll have to wait and see what Marvel has to say as the new year rolls on, but it goes without saying that fans are excited to see the returns of Agents Fury and Hill, as well as the on-screen adaptation of this iconic comic book series.
