9 best superhero movies to watch on Disney Plus (and 5 to skip)
Movies on Disney Plus: Black Widow
Finally, our beloved Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow, got her own standalone film in 2021! It was a long time coming and honestly a miss on Marvel Studios’ end not to make the movie sooner. Of course, the release was then pushed back because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which didn’t help. But the quality of the movie turned out to be pretty solid, and it’s an entertaining and emotional journey superhero fans shouldn’t miss.
The wonderful Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as the beloved titular character in Black Widow, which takes place in between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. The movie is packed with intense action sequences, including hand-to-hand combat, chase scenes, and awesome stunts. The other great part about the Cate Shortland-directed film is that it balances out action with emotion, and we get to see Natasha deal with her guilt and trauma.
There’s no reason not to watch Black Widow, whether it’s for the first time or a rewatch!

Movies on Disney Plus: Captain America: The Winter Soldier
While all three Captain America movies are definitely worth the watch, The Winter Soldier is the best one, which is why we’re including it on this list. The 2014 movie is one of the most exciting entries in the MCU to date, following Cap as he faces a conspiracy that threatens to shake the foundations of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the entire world.
As with the best superhero movies, The Winter Soldier features exciting action sequences from start to finish, including a fight between Cap and Winter Soldier, a car chase scene, and more. The movie also explores themes of loyalty, betrayal, and government surveillance, adding complexity to the story. As Captain America uncovers the truth behind the Winter Soldier’s identity and the conspiracy, he must make extremely difficult choices.
The Russo Brothers really came through with The Winter Soldier, and it’s a timeless Marvel movie that’ll continue to entertain viewers around the world.
