Superman is one of the most iconic characters ever, and we’ve seen so many fantastic portrayals of him onscreen. But who is the best? AI has an opinion.

When you think of DC Comics, one of the first superheroes who comes to mind is probably Superman. The popular character first debuted on the page back in the 1930s and has come such a long way since then. We’ve seen Clark Kent in movies, TV shows, video games, books, and more, and there are no doubt many more adaptations of his story on the way.

As we speculate who could be cast as the next Superman in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe, we’re also wondering which is the greatest of all-time performance. From the first live-action portrayal by Kirk Alyn in the late 1940s, all the way to the most recent performance by Henry Cavill on the big screen and Tyler Hoechlin’s current role in The CW’s Superman & Lois, there are many actors to choose from. 10, to be exact, at least in live-action roles.

Here at Bam Smack Pow, we love Hoechlin’s performance, as well as the late and great Christopher Reeve’s. But what does AI think? We asked ChatGPT who the best Superman actor is, and we certainly agree with its response. Henry Cavill fans, cover your eyes! AI didn’t pick the Witcher actor.

AI thinks Christopher Reeve is the best Superman actor of all time

Here’s the response ChatGPT gave me:

"As a die-hard DC fan, I have to say that Christopher Reeve is undoubtedly the number one best Superman actor to have ever graced our screens! His portrayal of the Man of Steel in the 1978 film Superman: The Movie and its sequels was nothing short of iconic. Reeve’s embodiment of both Clark Kent and Superman was unparalleled, capturing the essence of the character’s unwavering sense of justice, nobility, and compassion.Reeve’s performance was the epitome of Superman, with his charming charisma, strong presence, and unwavering commitment to doing good. He brought a perfect balance of strength and vulnerability to the role, making us believe that a man could truly fly. His dedication to the role and his ability to humanize the character while still exuding superhuman abilities was simply awe-inspiring.Reeve’s Superman has left an indelible mark on the popular culture, and his portrayal continues to be cherished by fans of all generations. His performance has set the gold standard for Superman portrayals, and his legacy as the Man of Steel will forever be remembered as the quintessential and best Superman actor of all time. Up, up, and away with Christopher Reeve as the ultimate Superman!"

We really couldn’t have said it any better! I don’t always agree with the takes ChatGPT gives me, but this one is spot-on. Reeve perfectly embodied all the qualities of Superman in his decade-long run which included four films (plus the Richard Donner cut). Many looked at Reeve as a real-life superhero, facing so much adversity in his life after his life-changing horse-riding accident in 1995. He lived the rest of his life paralyzed and became an activist for medical research and treatments.

Reeve sadly passed away in 2004 at the age of 52, leaving behind a lasting legacy to be remembered forever. It’s easy to understand why many, including us, believe he’ll always be the best Superman.
