It has been revealed that British actress and playwright Zawe Ashton will be playing this Marvel character.

Following the release of the official trailer for The Marvels, it has been revealed by Digital Spy that the star of British comedies Fresh Meat and Not Safe For Work, Zawe Ashton, is portraying a gender-swapped version of one Marvel character known as Dar-Benn.

Who is Dar-Benn in Marvel Comics?

General Dar-Benn, a pink male of the Kree race, is a warrior along with fellow General Ael-Dan and their regiment of Kree soldiers. Dar-Benn grew tired of the less-than-competent rule of Clumsy Foulup, a space pirate crew member. Dar-Benn schemed to assassinate Foulup with a robotic duplicate of Silver Surfer that was created for him to die at the hands of the Skrulls.

Dar-Benn and Ael-Dan then became joint superiors of the Kree Empire. However, both met their fate by Deathbird of the Shi’ar Empire during the Kree-Shi’ar War during Operation Galactic Storm, and their minds were subsequently absorbed by the Supreme Intelligence.

The MCU depiction of Dar-Benn…

It seems like Ashton’s portrayal of the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Dar-Benn is not of a General but rather some equivalence in rank such as an Accuser who wields their hammer. She is the main antagonist of The Marvels, whose identity was kept under wraps, as revealed back in February 2021.

Clearly, this interpretation of Dar-Benn is not only a high-ranking member of the Kree military but is more than likely a replacement for Ronan the Accuser who was defeated by the Guardians of the Galaxy in the original 2014 self-titled film.

We are unsure of the status of the Kree post-Endgame but its clear Dar-Benn wants to avenge the actions Carol Danvers took against the Kree Empire and the recent entanglement of powers between a New Jersey super-fan and a SWORD/SABER captain-turned-astronaut working under Nick Fury.

The Marvels is set to land on the big screen in theatres on Nov. 10, 2023.
