Kong has always been a titan of the movie scene but which King Kong movie reigns supreme as the true king of the monster movies?

Few movie monsters instil fear in moviegoers in the way that Kong does. Nicknamed the Eighth Wonder of the World, he made his debut on the silver screen 90 years ago when King Kong made its presence felt in movie theaters back in 1933. A stop-motion animation masterpiece, it was a huge step forward as to what movies were capable of at the time, and terrified audiences around the world.

Since then, the movie legend has been at the center of multiple remakes, starred in his own animated shows, led video games, and been incorporated into Legendary’s MonsterVerse alongside his old frenemy Godzilla.

But it won’t stop there, in fact, as Kong’s movie legacy is set to continue. Following the major success of Godzilla vs. Kong back in 2021, a sequel titled Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is arriving in theaters in 2024, and it will bring the two Titans back to the big screen to potentially face another new threat.

But Kong’s history on the big-screen has always been an extensive one. To celebrate his continued success, let’s look back on the king’s incredible portfolio of films and rank each of them from worst to best.

Which one is the king of Kongs?
