2. Superman II

  • Release Year: 1981
  • Director: Richard Lester
  • Cast: Gene Hackman, Christopher Reeve, Ned Beatty, Jackie Cooper, Sarah Douglas, Margot Kidder, Jack O’Halloran, Valerie Perrine, Susannah York, Clifton James, E. G. Marshall, Marc McClure, and Terence Stamp

Superman II comes in second on the list of the best Superman movies so far, and it’s easy to see why this movie is so good. Almost the whole gang is back for Superman II, which was released three years after the first movie. It’s not quite as good as the first movie. Sequels rarely are, but it’s still really good.

If the trials and tribulations of the first movie weren’t enough for Superman, he doesn’t have powers in Superman II after kryptonite exposure. In the film, three Kryptonian criminals, General Zod, Ursa, and Non, are released from the Phantom Zone and arrive on Earth. As General Zod and his minions wreak havoc on the planet, Superman must decide whether to regain his powers and save the world or give up his powers and live a normal life with Lois

There was a lot of drama with Superman II. Richard Donner, who directed the first Superman, was fired with production nearly done, and Richard Lester was hired to finish the film. In 2006, Richard Donner’s cut of Superman II was released.

And, for the best Superman movie of all time, we’re going with the original, Superman.
