Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is almost upon us but is it fun for the whole family?

Nine years ago, James Gunn introduced the world to the Guardians of the Galaxy with an unforgettable debut adventure that changed the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the MCU’s most important movies because it turned lesser-known heroes into household names, the 2014 film featured a star-studded cast and a wicked soundtrack. It was also some darn good fun.

The Guardians have since become one of the most beloved aspects of the MCU, with Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot, Mantis, Kraglin, and Nebula proving to be pivotal in the overall MCU story. But now, it seems that their stories will come to a close in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The film will close out James Gunn’s franchise as he ends his current chapter with Marvel Studios before he heads over to his new role at DC Studios. It’s looking like it will be an emotional one, so if you’re planning on taking your kids to see it, here’s what you need to know.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 age rating

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has an age rating of PG-13. The MPAA gave it this rating for “intense sequences of violence and action”, as well as strong language, suggestive/drug references and references of animal cruelty.

If you’ve seen the trailers then you’ll likely that the latter is a reference to Rocket and his backstory, as we’ll meet the High Evolutionary, who is responsible for “upgrading” him through surgery. So it’s worth bearing that in mind if you’re planning on taking younger kids to see the movie. Moreover, as this is the final one in the trilogy, it’s expected to be emotional (with perhaps some deaths).

As far as everything else goes, the PG-13 rating is the same rating that the previous two Guardians movies held (as well as all of the MCU movies). So you should expect the same level of action and sci-fi that you got in those.

Nobody knows your kids better than you do, so if you think the movie might be a little darker than previous movies in the saga, it might be worth checking it out yourself first.
