Though we’re still pretty far out from the release of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Fantastic Four, with a movie this huge we’re bound to get official casting announcements soon, right? We certainly hope so. After reports that Adam Driver might be playing the coveted role of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic started coming out, Marvel fans are abuzz with speculation. Who might play the rest of the superheroes?

This week, reports have circulated claiming that Aftersun star Paul Mescal has been tapped for the role of Johnny Storm/Human Torch, though nothing’s been confirmed. We have so many actors in mind who would be excellent as the next Fantastic Four, and we decided to have some fun and ask the AI tool ChatGPT who they think should play Human Torch.

Many fans will be happy with its answer, as we’ve seen fan art already of this actor taking on the role!

ChatGPT wants Zac Efron to play the next Human Torch in Fantastic Four

Here’s the answer ChatGPT told me, which I think is pretty convincing:

"One actor who could potentially play the role of Human Torch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Zac Efron. Efron is a talented actor who has shown his ability to handle comedic roles in films such as Neighbors and Baywatch, as well as more dramatic roles in The Greatest Showman and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. He also has the youthful appearance and physical attributes that could fit the character of Human Torch. However, it’s worth noting that there has been no official announcement regarding the casting of Human Torch in the MCU, and any potential casting decisions will be up to Marvel Studios."

Efron has definitely proven his talent as an actor over the years, and the good news is he wants to join the MCU! During an interview with Extra TV about a year ago (via MovieWeb) the 35-year-old said he “love[s]” Marvel, adding: “So, if the right character comes along, and they want me to jump in, I would jump at the opportunity.”

Many Marvel fans have expressed their desire to see Efron take on the role all over social media, leading to fan art depictions of what he could look like as the Human Torch. Check out one awesome piece of art from Instagram artist @captain__raccoon below:

Is Paul Mescal playing Human Torch in Fantastic Four?

While reports earlier this week claimed Mescal has been offered the role of Johnny Storm, it looks like some outlets have already debunked that. As ComicBookMovie.com reports, Mescal is a hot commodity right now and has multiple big roles lined up. Not only will he star in the Gladiator sequel, but he’s also in talks to star in an adaptation of the bestselling historical fiction book Hamnet directed by Chloé Zhao.

The Oscar nominee currently has eight upcoming projects on his IMDb page, and given Fantastic Four is due out in 2025, it does seem hard to believe that he’d find the time for the MCU. At this point, though, neither Marvel Studios nor Mescal have responded to the reports.

So what are the chances Zac Efron could take on the role of Human Torch? We wouldn’t rule it out! It’s hard to say what Marvel Studios is thinking in terms of casting, but we’d certainly be all for Efron taking on the part. What do you think?
