2. Mysterio

Movie: Spider-Man: Far From Home

"“You’ll see, Peter. People… need to believe. And nowadays, they’ll believe anything.”-Quentin Beck"

Jake Gyllenhaal is a fantastic actor, but he had a couple of big things going against him. First, everyone who knew Mysterio was aware that he was the villain. That left him at a disadvantage. There was no surprise when he revealed who he was. Second, could Gyllenhaal make Mysterio a character that the audience would enjoy? He overcame both and could be looked at as the best part of Spider-Man: Far From Home.

At first, it seemed like Quentin Beck was going to be a sympathetic villain. In an instant, that all changed. Fans still may have felt bad for him, but Mysterio put innocent people in danger so he could look like a hero. Viewers may not have seen people die, but there’s no way there weren’t deaths. Even if there wasn’t, the emotional damage for the people involved was there. Then there’s the coup de grâce. Mysterio ruined Peter’s life after death by recording a video saying that Peter Parker was Spider-Man.

Jake Gyllenhaal deserves all of the adoration possible for this role. He was believable from start to finish. He was believable despite knowing that he would eventually become the villain, he sold the reveal perfectly, and he really put a beating on Spider-Man. To top it all off, Beck fooled the entire world into thinking that he was a hero.
