The main characters that are set to appear in the X-Men 97′ Disney Plus reboot have been revealed on both fronts – the heroes and the villains.
It has been four years since the announcement of the revival of X-Men: The Animated Series produced by Marvel Studios for Disney Plus tentatively called X-Men 97’. Back in November 2021, it was reported the series will continue from where the original series left off and Beau DeMayo will serve as head writer.
Who are the main characters?
From The Direct, they broke down who are the main characters that will appear in X-Men 97’. Some of the characters on the hero side of their namesake will appear as follows: Storm, Cyclops, Rogue, Gambit, Wolverine, Jubilee, Jean Grey, Beast, Nightcrawler, Cable, Bishop, Morph, Forge, and Sunspot.
Just as a tidbit, while most of the surviving cast such as Call Dodd (Wolverine), Lenore Zann (Rogue), and Alison Sealy-Smith (Storm) just to name a few will reprise their roles. Alyson Court will not reprise her role as Jubilee and will voice another character instead choosing to leave the door open for an Asian actress to portray the character.
On the villain side, characters who are set to appear in the X-Men revival are Magneto, Sebastian Shaw, Emma Frost, Callisto, Val Cooper, and Mister Sinister.
DeMayo, who wrote an episode of Moon Knight and did a draft of the upcoming Blade film reboot before Michael Starrbury took over, shared about the process for X-Men 97’ saying: “Just because it hasn’t been shown doesn’t mean it isn’t coming. Patience.”
He added:
"“But also, my goal is to continue expanding the XTAS world out organically versus just putting my personal fave mutants into the show. One of the biggest pieces of advice [‘The X-Men: The Animated Series’ team] gave me was to be mindful and measured about adding mutants to the team and/or show.”"
X-Men 97’ has been described while maintaining the nostalgia such as the look and sound of the original, there will be some big changes. The focus will be on both Storm and Cyclops who serve as the conduits that are the through line in each adventure whilst navigating each character.
