1. Season 4

I’m a firm believer of the fact that Titans is at its best when it sticks to grounded, less-supernatural stories, so the fact that I’m placing season 4 – a season that goes against all of that – at the top of the list is a testament to how strong it is.

The fourth season brings back in the threat of Trigon, which ironically gives it something of a full-circle feel as the unexpected final season. This time, it’s Brother Blood and Mother Mayhem that are the threats the Titans need to worry about, as they seek to bring back the demon and bring about the end of days in the process. This also places some long overdue spotlight on Starfire as she must fulfil the prophecy of saving the world, while Rachel must also contend with her demonic family.

Tim Drake finally gets the chance to suit up as Robin, an unanticipated change in Conner’s personality allows Joshua Orpin to shine, and an incredible Beast Boy-focused episode delivers on so much emotion and nostalgia that it single-handedly made DC fans’ days.

While Titans deserved to go on for a lot longer, it’s rather fitting that it went out on its best season. The show spent its whole run trying to find its groove, and it had well and truly found it in season 4. It went big before it went home, and that’s something no cancellation can take away from it.
