Joker 2: Batman begins as Robert Pattinson stuns in jaw-dropping “first look” trailer
Joker 2 is on its way and DC fans are amazed by this incredible video that gives us a glimpse of what a Batman could look like in Joker’s world.
Joker 2 is one of the most mysterious movies on the Hollywood calendar. Once upon a time a film that many thought would never happen, there wasn’t supposed to be a sequel to Todd Phillips’ Academy Award-nominated 2019 thriller. However, its record-breaking success at the box office made that inevitable, and after some time at the drawing board, it seems like the director and his star have come up with the perfect idea for a sophomore outing.
Joker took the world by storm in 2019, crossing the $1 billion mark worldwide while Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar for his grounded his performance as the Clown Prince of Crime. Now, the star returns to the role in Joker: Folie à Deux, a musical sequel that sees him join forces with Lady Gaga, who is set to portray the iconic Harley Quinn.
As fans of the first film eagerly await updates about the sequel, it has already led to a ton of creative designs from fans, imagining what Joker 2 could look like, including some fan art imagining what Gaga will look like as Harley Quinn.
This incredible fan-made teaser trailer looks imagines what the plot could be like, specifically if it involves the birth of a certain Dark Knight.
What Joker 2 might look like if it features Batman
The epic fan-made trailer comes from YouTube user Stryder HD. Titled a “First Look Trailer”, it gives fans a tease of what Joker 2 might look like, using footage from the first movie to remind us where we last saw Arthur Fleck, as well as footage from A Star Is Born to tease fans with how Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn may play into the plot.
It also teases us with the possibility of Batman’s involvement, using footage from the DCEU films, The Dark Knight and The Batman to give us an idea of what a Joker sequel involving the Caped Crusader could look like. It primarily uses footage of Robert Pattinson from the latter movie (as well as clips of Pattinson from Tenet), while also using clips of Heath Ledger’s Joker from The Dark Knight and employing Deepfake technology to super impose Phoenix’s likeness onto it.
The result is nothing short of stunning.
Is Robert Pattinson’s Batman in Joker 2?
At this time, it is unknown if Batman will be involved in Joker: Folie à Deux. While the Todd Phillips franchise is considered a prequel to the Dark Knight’s days as a hero in Gotham City, the first film used its comic book references rather scarcely as it attempted to exist in a world as non-Batman-like as possible. This approach did, however, draw criticism from comic book fans.
With the ending of the film alluding to the birth of the Caped Crusader and the inclusion of Harley Quinn in the sequel, the DC references may be greater in Joker 2, so there is always a possibility that we could get some nods to Batman if he has donned the cowl at this point in time.
That said, don’t be expecting Robert Pattinson to turn up as Matt Reeves’ The Batman film series is firmly rooted in its own world with its own Joker.
Will The Batman 2 and Joker 2 actually happen?
2022 saw a lot of upheaval at DC, with James Gunn and Peter Safran coming in as new co-chairmen and CEOs of DC Studios. A lot of what was once the DC Extended Universe was cancelled as a lot, with both Gunn and Safran putting together a new DC Universe for cinema.
If you’re a fan of The Batman and Joker franchises, you’ll be glad to know that they appear to be safe – likely helped by the fact that they exist outside of the DCEU. As a result, they will continue to produce confirmed titles under the Elseworlds title, taking place in continuities outside of the new DC Universe.
Matt Reeves is currently hard at work on developing the Penguin spinoff series starring Colin Farrell for HBO Max (which will change its name to Max in the near-future) that will reportedly set the stage for The Batman 2. Meanwhile production on Joker: Folie à Deux took place between December 2022 and April 2023.
So, while a crossover probably isn’t on the cards, it’s good to know that all is looking good on the sequels front for both of the DC franchises.
