1. Final Destination

The one that started it all: Final Destination. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the first movie in the franchise is ranked as the best, as it kicked off a pop culture phenomenon and served as inspiration for plenty of horror movies to come. While many of the sequels feel predictable because they follow the same formula, the first movie feels incredibly original.

The original follows high school student Alex who has a premonition of his plane crashing. While he manages to get off before takeoff, death realizes he and his friends have cheated their fates and it starts to come for them. The unique premise is definitely the strongest part of Final Destination, and of course, there are awesome death sequences. Some of the most memorable include Terry getting hit by a bus that comes out of nowhere and Mrs. Lewton’s ridiculous yet entertaining death. The movie also features strong suspense and tension.

However, the characters in Final Destination are one-dimensional, making it difficult for the audience to fully invest in their fates. The pacing could be improved, and some of the performances aren’t quite believable.

The Final Destination series is certainly not for everyone, but if you’re a horror fan, you’ve got to at least respect the original movie.
