4. Ron Perlman
It’s once again time to show some appreciation for the most underrated Batman series to ever grace our screens, and that is of course, The Batman. The animated show has spent its existence living in the huge shadow cast by Batman: The Animated Series but it was also excellent in its own right and it’s time we discussed that more often.
One of its many unique portrayals was its version of Killer Croc. This iteration of the character was, like his comic book counterpart, very large, towering over anyone who crossed his path. As The Batman often steered clear of anything too scary for its younger audience, he wasn’t quite as terrifying as the source material, instead having the appearance of an anthropomorphic crocodile (which, yeah, is terrifying in its own right). He also had a scar over his left eye and sported a leather vest.
It’s really quite wild that we don’t talk about this Killer Croc more often because he was voiced by the legendary Ron Perlman. And that’s one of the finest aspects about him, because Perlman portrayed him as an intellectual crime boss (instead of being a feral animal as seen in other interpretations) who had his own team of henchman instead of being one. He also voiced him with a Cajun accent, which really provided another wonderfully unique spin on the character.
An innovative way to avoid the more physically frightening version of Croc, The Batman‘s interpretation ended up giving us one of the very best portrayals in the process.
