23. Livewire

Livewire’s death was heartbreaking for a number of reasons. On one hand, it was hard to watch such an iconic DC Comics and Supergirl villain perish before her time. But on a much deeper level, it was hard not to get emotional at how she went out.

Having left her days of crime behind, Leslie had struggled to find a place for herself on earth where she wouldn’t be judged for her heinous actions, but when her old enemy reached out for help, she couldn’t refuse.

Livewire and Supergirl had quite the tumultuous history. They didn’t like each other but, after two years of on-again/off-again fighting they had developed somewhat of a mutual respect for each other due to the fact that Kara saved the villain’s life at one point during that time. And this ultimately resulted in Livewire returning the favor by saving the Girl of Steel from a deadly blast by Reign.

There’s something incredibly tragic and heroic about a villain laying down their life for a hero because it doesn’t just show how much said hero impacted her life, it shows what she could have become if Reign hadn’t taken her life from her. And as she died in Supergirl’s arms, she smiled and endearingly called herself a “sucker” for doing the right thing.

The best kind Lesley, the best kind.
