Will The Flash season 10 happen? What awaits the future of the Arrowverse and The CW series?

The Flash is currently one of the longest-running TV shows on the air. The classic superhero series is based on the DC Comics character of the same name and it debuted on our screens back in 2014. A spin-off of Arrow, it is part of the hugely successful shared universe on The CW known as the Arrowverse.

The show is the longest-running Arrowverse series, currently in its ninth season. The Flash season 9, however, is coming to an end with its season finale. “A New World, Part Four” will bring the show’s current storyline, which sees Team Flash taking on the Negative Speed Force, to a close.

But if you haven’t been keeping up with the news, you might want to know what the future holds for the Scarlet Speedster. Are there more adventures ahead for The Flash?

Is The Flash season 10 happening?

Sadly, The Flash will not return to The CW for a tenth season. While the vast majority of DC TV shows have been cancelled by both The CW and Warner Bros. Discovery over the past year, The Flash was one of the few renewed for a new season. However, it was subsequently revealed that the ninth season would indeed be its last.

No, The Flash has not been cancelled, but with all of the changes going on at both WBD and The CW, the decision was made to end the show in season 9. Given how important its legacy is to both superhero television and The Flash himself, it made sense that it was one of the lucky few to end on its own terms.

The truth is that The Flash wouldn’t have lasted much longer anyway. Series leads Grant Gustin and Candice Patton reportedly would have left after season 9 regardless, so the network’s decision to end the show ended up working out. However, it did surprise showrunner Eric Wallace to learn that they would only get a 13 episode season.

Gustin has revealed that he would be open to returning to the role in the future should the opportunity present itself. But for now, The Flash as it was, has come to an end.

The Flash has enjoyed an incredibly successful, record-breaking run for The CW and its legacy will live on forever. Thank you, Flash, for the memories!
