Previous comic book project: Captain America: The First Avenger

"“Before we get started, does anyone want to get out?” – Steve Rogers"

There isn’t a sequel that follows up a project better than Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Everything that you wondered about when it comes to Steve Rogers from Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers was answered in the 2014 sequel.

How was Steve adjusting to the new era? Fans saw that he was making a list of things he needed to know and wasn’t compromising his morals to adjust to a different time. We also saw that a lot of things still confused Steve. How did his life change after The Avengers? Rogers was still helping people however he could, but was having a hard time fitting in. Could he be even better than he was in his previous two movies? Absolutely. This was obvious by Chris Evans being amazing.

This was a nearly perfect movie. The high stakes were shown by people being killed or severely injured throughout this project. The antagonists were incredible. Alexander Pierce and Brock Rumlow were evil and The Winter Soldier was terrifying. The reveal that Hydra was still around was a great twist as well. It continued Cap’s story from the first movie.

Moreover, The Winter Soldier made every single fight scene count. All of them were standouts, especially the elevator showdown. And the comedy was well-placed, too. There weren’t emotional moments ruined by a misplaced quip (something Marvel has been chastised for).

Lastly, every emotion was felt. It was especially good since the action scenes weren’t there just for thrills. Each of them had an emotional element. Cap’s first fight with Bucky is a perfect example of this. After the battle, Steve was shocked to see his best friend alive. Even comic book fans who knew this was happening got emotional when the Winter Soldier responded: “Who the Hell is Bucky?”

Overall, a flawless sequel
