"“I can’t live your dreams anymore. I want a life of my own.” – Peter Parker"
Viewers can easily see the consequences of the events of Spider-Man play out in its successor. And, when it comes to anything involving Peter Parker, there will always be consequences.
First of all, Spider-Man 2 sees MJ move on from Peter after he turns down her offer for a relationship. Aunt May’s life is in shambles without the money being brought in by Uncle Ben, which is showcased pretty soon when Peter and May go to the bank in hopes of a loan. And Harry Osborn’s need to avenge his father’s death comes into play throughout the movie, which almost gets MJ killed. What does all of this show? That Peter’s life is tougher thanks to his life as Spidey.
The best part of Spider-Man 2 isn’t Spider-Man. It’s Peter Parker. His time as a crime-fighter has destroyed his social life, almost got him kicked out of college, and nearly cost him a relationship with MJ. When he loses his powers, he feels a weight lifted off his shoulders. That weight returns when he realizes that he can’t stop being Spider-Man. He finds out that no matter how much easier his life would be, with great power, must also come great responsibility.
You can’t mention Spider-Man 2 without talking about Alfred Molina’s flawless performance as Doctor Otto Octavius. Every superhero project needs a villain and Doc Ock was the right villain for this movie. He challenged Spider-Man physically and mentally. Norman Osborn was the best Spidey movie villain, but Doc Ock carried the torch well.
