The Flash season 9 has come to a close, and so has the whole series. What does that ending mean for not just The Flash but the Arrowverse?
After nine seasons, 180+ episodes, and almost ten years on our screens, The Flash has come to an end. It’s undoubtedly an emotional time for fans of not just the series, but the Arrowverse itself, as new owners at The CW are taking the network in a different direction, meaning that the shared universe of superheroes is coming to emotional end.
Emotional is definitely what it was in The Flash season 9 episode 13. Titled “A New World, Part Four: Finale”, the series finale saw Team Flash take on Eddie Thawne, a.k.a. Cobalt Blue, who had now become the new avatar for the Negative Speed Force. And he didn’t show up to the fight alone, as he brought the Reverse-Flash, Zoom, Savitar, and Godspeed with him.
However, the closing moments featured some surprising twists. What does it all mean and who are the new figures?
Who are the new speedsters in The Flash season 9 finale?
The series finale of The Flash sees Barry Allen decide that the best way forward is to share their gifts with others. As a result, he decides to throw lightning into the sky so that the lightning can choose new speedsters to take on the power of the Speed Force and save Central City, thus building out the Flash Family for a new generation.
Those three new speedsters that Barry has created are Avery Ho, Max Mercury, and Jess Chambers. And those are three names that will likely send DC Comics fans into meltdown.
Avery Ho appears in DC Comics as a member of the Justice League of China and she is known as The Flash of China. This isn’t the first time that Avery has appeared on the show, with her previous appearance being in the midseason finale in season 8. Piper Curda reprises her role.
Jess Chambers is a recent addition to the DC Comics speedster line-up, debuting in 2021 as the first non-binary Flash. They are portrayed by Hana Destiny Huggins.
Max Mercury is undoubtedly the most famous name of the three, and a character that fans have wanted to see appear on The Flash for some time. Debuting back in 1993, he’s essentially DC’s version of Quicksilver and has become one of the Flash’s most recurring characters in the comics. Its’ quite fulfilling to finally see him appear on the show. He is portrayed by Trevor Carroll.
What a surprise for the final episode of The Flash. Thank you, Flash, for nine wonderful seasons!
