5. Friday the 13th Part 3 in 3D

Hold onto your hockey masks because we are about to dive headlong into Friday the 13th Part 3. The film where the franchise really cements itself as the king of slashers.

Jason is back and way more intense than we have ever seen him before. Finally donning the iconic hockey mask for the first time, he doesn’t hold back, especially with the gimmick of 3D on his side. Early on in the film, some things are done to establish the 3D, but when you watch it back today without the magic of Three Dimensions it really does look quite ridiculous. Even one of the kills – the eyeball – looks really bad. If you know what I am talking about then you know what I mean, and probably agree.

Higgens Haven becomes the violent stomping ground for Jason as he uses axes that split people down the middle from the wrong direction. I’m looking at you Art the Clown, harpoons in the eyes and everything else you can think of. Richard Brooker has the mask this time and the fact that he was a trained circus performer helped with a lot of the really amazing back-and-forth between Jason and his slew of victims.

This is also the film Jason gets the giant axe wound in his mask that would follow him for a good chunk of the series. I guess his Mom never taught him how to take care of his things.
