Mortal Kombat 1’s DLC’s could feature comic book characters Omni-Man, Peacemaker, and Homelander.

Mortal Kombat became one of the most innovative video games of all time. The franchise continued this trend by trying something new with each of its games. Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath then reset their video game universe.

This has set the stage for the newest installment Mortal Kombat 1, which debuts in September, being a complete reboot of the series. A move that will give the franchise new stories, characters, and Chosen One.

Fans of the franchise have gotten used to seeing non-Mortal Kombat characters in their downloadable content. Gamers have seen popular heroes and villains like Predator, Robocop, Terminator, and more. Mortal Kombat 1 won’t change that. Possible leaks of MK1’s DLC have surfaced and among the six released characters, three of them are comic book related. Make way for Homelander, Omni-Man, and Peacemaker.

NetherRealm Studios, the company that makes the MK games, has done something great with their DLC characters. They’ve made it a point to use relevant pop-culture figures for their playable content. The difference here is the characters are more relevant today.

Omni-Man remains popular two years after Invincible season 1 was released on Amazon Prime Video. Thanks to a stellar performance by John Cena as the title character, Peacemaker became a well-received and rated show. Meanwhile, Homelander is a hateable villain that’s helped make The Boys one of the best comic book TV shows of all time. Adding these three characters to Mortal Kombat 1 will bring in people who wouldn’t normally purchase a Mortal Kombat game.

If the leaks are true, fans should expect to see the artwork of Homelander, Omni-Man, and Peacemaker in the upcoming months. There will also be videos of their fatalities as well. If you’ve watched the shows or read the comics, then you know what these characters are capable of. What’s better is the creative team at NetherRealm Studios is going to do things that we haven’t seen them do on streaming services and in the comics. These won’t be the last comic book characters added to Mortal Kombat 1.
